Moments later, Claire Brandt found herself in space and didn’t hesitate—cutting across her defender and sending a low rocket into the net.
Not even 60 seconds after that, Brandt struck again—this time bending a shot around the keeper to make it 3-0 before some parents had even taken their seats.
The onslaught continued:

With the lead secure, BDU rotated keepers, giving minutes in net to both Claire Brandt and Whitney Phillips, each of whom made clean saves and kept the team organized.
Lakewood tallied a second goal to bring it to 6-2, but Blue Devil United responded in style:
Hannah Bechlem, known for her physical defending, made a forward run from midfield, powered through contact, and blasted a shot left of the keeper and in—her first goal of the season, and a moment of pure grit.

Blue Devil United suffered their first loss of the fall season on Wednesday evening, falling 4-2 to a fast-finishing Bay Village KB side in a game that highlighted the importance of execution and details.
Despite the result, the match was filled with bright moments for BDU, including a milestone first goal for rising midfielder Emery Osysko, who continues to grow into a key contributor.
BDU came out aggressive and sharp, taking the early lead when Claire Brandt continued her torrid scoring pace by finishing a smooth through ball from Charlie Merker. It was Brandt’s 9th goal of the season, and Merker’s third assist in Fall play.
Just minutes later, a moment to remember: Emery Osysko crashed the box and cleaned up a loose ball to score her first career goal, giving BDU a 2-0 lead. The play was set up by a clever ball from Whitney Phillips, notching her 6th assist of the season.
Bay Village didn’t back down. They pulled one back before halftime to make it 2-1, and despite multiple chances for both sides—including a ball on the line by BDU—the score held at the break.
In the second half, momentum began to shift. Bay Village tied the match at 2-2 and continued to push, eventually scoring two more unanswered goals to make it 4-2.
Though BDU continued to apply pressure and push forward, they couldn’t convert their chances. For the first time this fall, they left the pitch on the wrong side of the scoreboard.

Despite the travel fatigue, the girls showed resilience after conceding a goal in the opening 30 seconds. Quick substitutions helped the team battle through tough conditions.
After going down 1-0 early, BDU responded with a strike from Whitney Phillips, assisted by Claire Brandt, to tie the match. The Blue Devil United U11 Girls traveled to Massillon for their regular season finale, facing a tough, physical Jackson squad for the second time this spring. With a division title already secured, BDU entered the match looking to close out a perfect season—and they delivered.
Jackson came in with something to prove after suffering a 3-2 comeback loss to BDU earlier in the season. This rematch was physical from the start, but the referee kept control of the pace.
In a back-and-forth first half, Jackson capitalized on a breakdown midway through to take a 1-0 lead. Just before halftime, BDU responded. Audrey VanDyke connected with Jordan Glass, who placed a shot off the right post and into the net to equalize—her second goal of the season.
Coming out of halftime, BDU adjusted its strategy to shut down Jackson’s wide attack. That shift paid off quickly. VanDyke again played provider, feeding Charlie Merker, who stepped up and delivered a towering left-footed strike past the keeper—her second goal of the season and a highlight-reel finish.
Later, BDU earned a dangerous free kick just outside the box. VanDyke struck a low, powerful shot that deflected off the keeper, hit beyond the line, and bounced back out. Though Whitney Phillips rushed in to finish the play, the referee confirmed the initial shot crossed the line—crediting the goal to VanDyke, her second of the spring.
The final 12 minutes showcased defensive dominance. Mara Buntura, Ella Magana, Josie DiGeronimo, and JoJo Rollins shut down every push from Jackson. Emma Barwacz made a gutsy save to deny a late attempt, while Claire Brandt's booming punts flipped field position multiple times.
